Wuthering Heights,
based on the masterpiece novel by Emily Brontë,
directed by Simos Kakalas.

Wuthering Heights, the masterpiece novel by Emily Brontë, inspired by an idea from Elena Mavridou, adapted by her and directed by Simos Kakalas, was presented at the Choros Theater of the Choros Theater Company in two separate performances, in the form of first and second acts, from March 16 and the fall of ’18, respectively.

IN SHORT

Somewhere in the English countryside, at the mercy of the raging wind, a visitor from the city knocks on the door of a solitary farmhouse. The inhospitable behavior and mysterious charm of the host ignite in the visitor an irresistible desire to uncover the story of this dark man. As night falls, shadows and phantoms blend the past with the present, and a tale of absolute love and terrifying revenge begins to take shape before him.

Romanticism, from the moment it appeared, has never left the forefront of human interest. The identification with and confrontation against the elements of nature, heroes who cannot escape themselves, and the dramatic transgressions of limits have always provided a fertile ground for character development. Through this particularly dark novel, the author manages to create real humans despite the magnitude of their traits. The atmosphere emerging from this romantic story of unfulfilled love and revenge is dark, almost metaphysical. The environment seems like an extension of the souls of those who inhabit it, while the ultimate adversary always remains themselves.
