In Brief
A performance about motherhood inspired by real events.
*The Wing*, a dreamlike performance about motherhood inspired by real events, returns from February 25th at the Choros Theatre, directed by Elena Mavridou.
*The Wing* is the paradoxical, surreal universe of a maternity hospital. Every full moon, the cardiotocographs in pregnant women’s bellies go crazy. A security officer dreams that he is the father of the child in the single room. The oldest midwife in the hospital wonders if babies resemble fish. Above the obligatory Virgin Mary frame in each room, a strange shadow appears to watch over the rooms. *The Wing* is the uncanny dance of memory. A different, eerie dance, a midnight requiem. But above all, it is a hymn to life, where light meets darkness, in the empty space between birth and death.
Drawing material from real interviews and events, *The Wing* explores the limits of reality, logic, and the freedom of choice of women who are carrying children, fighting for motherhood within hospitals. A performance with minimal dialogue, at the edge of performance art and physical theatre, unique, full of emotion and humor, about love and memory, passion and diversity, loss, and people’s dreams of creation.
