Orestes,
by Euripides,
directed by Simos Kakalas.

Orestes, translated by Tsarouchis – at the premises of the Horos Theatre Company

IN SHORT

“And what doesn’t a person endure in this life,” exclaims Electra to Orestes (408 B.C.). After the matricide, the tragic siblings try to escape, while violence reigns everywhere. In the decaying Athens of the Peloponnesian War, Euripides speaks of a declining democracy and experiments with the boundaries of tragedy.

Golfo, Erofili, Orestes have been the original targets of the pioneering troupe that, for the past ten years, has been revitalizing our theatre. Guided by Tsarouchis’s translation, Kakalas seeks the place of tragedy today, proposing a theatre that is both popular and poetic, completed through an interactive relationship with the audience.
