The award-winning actress Elena Mavridou (*Melina Merkouri – Karolos Koun*), with many years of experience in working with metrical language, the fifteen-syllable verse, and shadow theatre, creates a performance of images, music, and words. A soundscape inhabited by the shadows of a world still within us—a world that seeks to connect with the present.
The music of the performance draws its material from the tones and melodies of our country’s folk music. Themes from the Aegean and Epirus are reshaped and brought into the present, given a contemporary character through the use of technology and sound design, creating the sonic landscape that emphasizes the words of Dionysios Solomos.
Elena Mavridou, as both narrator of the poem and orchestrator of the performance, aims, through alternating audiovisual stimuli, to give “space and time” to the magnificent poem and bring it to life in the imagination of the audience. Accompanying her is the renowned musician and lyra player Giorgos Mavridis.
